Project Overview
ShadeCo India Private Limited designed, fabricated and installed a barrel vault tensile entrance canopy at Heritage Public School, Sector 57, Gurugram, Haryana. The canopy covers about 8,000 sq. ft. at the school entrance and was completed in August 2018.
A large school sees heavy movement at its gate, with students arriving and leaving in groups and parents waiting during pick-up hours. The school wanted this whole area under one roof, so that people could wait and walk in shade and stay dry during the monsoon.
Barrel Vault Canopy with a Joined Cone
The main roof is a barrel vault, a long curved fabric roof that spans the entrance area. A cone is joined to the vault, adding height and a clear focal point above the gateway. The curved shape sheds rainwater to the sides and keeps the fabric evenly tensioned along its length.
The membrane is 950 GSM PVC/PVDF coated polyester in a flame-retardant (FR) grade, which suits a busy public space like a school. The mild steel frame has an epoxy paint finish and stands on new foundations. It was designed for wind loads as per IS 875 (Part 3).

Fabrication and Installation
The vault and cone frames were fabricated and epoxy painted in our workshop. The FR fabric was patterned to the curve of the vault and the shape of the cone, then heat sealed into finished panels before delivery to Gurugram.
On site, our team first cast the new foundations, then raised the steel frame and tensioned the fabric over it. The work was timed for the school holidays, so the gate stayed clear when classes were running. The project took about two months from start to handover.
Project Result
The school entrance now offers about 8,000 sq. ft. of shaded space where students and parents can gather in any weather. The curved vault and raised cone also give Heritage Public School a gateway that is easy to spot from the road.
