Gazebo tensile structures, also known as tensile gazebos, fabric gazebos, membrane gazebo canopies or garden gazebo shades, are freestanding shelters with a peaked fabric roof on a square, round or hexagonal steel frame. The membrane is tensioned up to a central peak, which gives the gazebo its familiar tent-like shape and lets rain run off on all sides. They are used as permanent seating and dining shelters in gardens, terraces, resorts, cafes, clubs, school grounds and parks.
ShadeCo India Private Limited is a gazebo tensile structure manufacturer and supplier in India. We design, fabricate, supply and install conical gazebos, four-post square gazebos, hexagonal and circular gazebos, twin-peak and multi-gazebo clusters, terrace and rooftop gazebos and poolside cabanas, from a single garden gazebo for a villa to a row of coloured gazebos over a restaurant's outdoor seating.
Choosing a gazebo starts with what will go under it: a sofa set, a dining table for eight, a row of picnic benches or a bar counter. That decides the plan size and the post spacing. We then look at the surface it will stand on, such as a lawn, paved patio, wooden deck or terrace slab, because that sets the foundation or base-plate detail. Colour, peak height and whether the gazebo needs lighting for evening use complete the brief.

Why Choose a Tensile Gazebo
Most gardens, lawns and terraces have no shelter at all, so they are used only in the early morning or after sunset. A masonry or timber gazebo takes weeks to build, needs a heavy roof and regular painting or polishing, and once built it cannot easily be moved or changed. Umbrellas and temporary canopies, on the other hand, blow over, fade within a season and do not keep out a real monsoon shower.
A tensile gazebo sits between the two. It is a permanent, engineered structure with a waterproof roof, but it is light, made mostly in the workshop and installed in a short time on site. The peaked membrane sheds rain and lets warm air rise out through the top, the open sides keep the space airy, and the fabric colour can be chosen to suit the garden, the brand of a cafe or the theme of a resort.
Types of Gazebo Tensile Structures
Gazebos differ mainly in plan shape, the number of peaks and where they will stand.
Conical Gazebo
A single fabric cone rises from a round or polygonal frame to a central peak. It is the classic tensile gazebo, suited to lawns, landscape focal points and small seating groups.
Square Four-Post Gazebo
Four corner posts carry a square frame with a peaked membrane above, like the white garden gazebo in our photos. The square plan fits furniture and paving layouts neatly, and larger versions cover rows of benches or dining tables.
Hexagonal and Circular Gazebo
Six or more posts around a round plan create a gazebo that looks the same from every side. It suits central positions in gardens, resort lawns and park walkways where people approach from several directions.
Twin-Peak and Cluster Gazebos
Two or more peaked units are joined on a shared frame, or several gazebos are placed side by side, often in different colours. Cafes, restaurants and food courts use them to cover long seating areas while keeping the gazebo look.
Terrace and Rooftop Gazebo
Gazebos on terraces are fixed to the slab with base plates, with the roof waterproofing made good around each fixing, and are designed for the higher wind on a rooftop. They turn an empty terrace into a usable lounge or dining area.
Poolside Cabana and Custom Gazebo
Smaller cabana-style gazebos shade loungers and day beds beside a pool, while custom gazebos are drawn for special locations, such as lit gazebos for wedding lawns or branded gazebos for resorts. For pool areas, see our swimming pool sun sheds.
Custom Gazebo Design: Size, Height, Base and Colour
Plan size comes from the furniture. A gazebo that only just fits the table leaves chairs half in the sun and rain, so the roof edge is usually carried a little beyond the seating on every side. Eave height is set so people can walk in without ducking, and the peak height is chosen for proportion: taller peaks look more elegant and let more hot air rise away from the seating.
The base detail depends on the ground. On lawns and soil, each post sits on a concrete footing; on paving and decks, the footing is set below the finished surface or the post is bolted through a base plate. On terraces, base plates are fixed to the slab and sealed so the roof does not leak. Fabric colour is chosen last, often to match a cafe's branding, a resort's palette or the landscape, and LED lighting can be fitted inside the frame for evenings.
PVC vs PVDF Fabric for Gazebos
A gazebo needs a roof that keeps out rain as well as sun, so both options are coated, waterproof membranes. They differ in how well they keep their colour and clean look outdoors, and in price.

Benefits of Gazebo Tensile Structures
A tensile gazebo makes an outdoor space useful at more hours of the day and in more seasons.
- Seating Usable by Day: A lawn or terrace stops being an evening-only space and becomes usable through the afternoon.
- Shelter from Showers: A waterproof peaked roof keeps furniture and guests dry in the rainy season.
- Airy Under the Roof: Open sides and a raised peak help warm air move up and out.
- Quick to Install: Frames and membranes are made off-site, so site work is short and tidy.
- Colour and Branding: Fabric colours can match a garden scheme, a cafe brand or a resort theme.
- Little Upkeep: No painting of timber or plastering of masonry, just periodic cleaning and checks.
Applications of Gazebo Tensile Structures
Villas, bungalows and farmhouses use tensile gazebos as garden sit-outs, barbecue corners and rooftop lounges, and housing societies add them to landscaped areas and clubhouse lawns. Resorts and hotels place gazebos on lawns for dining, wedding functions and spa areas, and beside pools as cabanas.
Cafes, restaurants and food courts use single or clustered gazebos to add covered outdoor seating, often in their brand colours. Schools and colleges put gazebos over picnic benches and outdoor eating areas, public parks and gardens use them as rest shelters along walkways, and clubs and golf courses use them as viewing and refreshment points.
Gazebo Tensile Structure Price in India: What Affects the Cost
The price of a gazebo tensile structure depends first on its plan size and shape. A small conical gazebo over a garden bench needs less steel and fabric than a large square gazebo over a dining area or a cluster of gazebos for a restaurant.
The fabric (PVC or PVDF) and colour, the peak height, the number of posts, the frame finish, the type of base (lawn footing, paving or terrace slab), lighting, the number of gazebos ordered together and the project location also affect the quotation.
To get a price, tell us the approximate size or the furniture to be covered, the shape you prefer, the surface it will stand on, your colour choice, a few photographs of the spot and the location.
How We Design and Install a Gazebo Tensile Structure
Gazebos are usually built in finished gardens, terraces or restaurants, so we keep site work short and protect lawns, paving and furniture around the work area.
- Step 1 – Spot inspection: Our team takes measurements of the spot, note the furniture to be covered and check the ground, paving or terrace slab.
- Step 2 – Shape and colour selection: We suggest the gazebo shape, size, peak height and fabric colour, and send a drawing for your approval.
- Step 3 – Structural check: Posts, ring beam, peak fittings and bases are designed for the site wind load as per IS 875, with extra care for rooftops.
- Step 4 – Workshop production: The steel frame is fabricated and powder-coated in your chosen colour, and the membrane is cut and welded to the gazebo pattern.
- Step 5 – Site installation: Footings or base plates are set, the frame is assembled and the membrane is pulled up to the peak and tensioned.
- Step 6 – Final check: We check tension, levels, drainage off the eaves and lighting if fitted, and share care tips.
Gazebo Tensile Structure Design and Installation Solutions
ShadeCo India supplies tensile gazebos as single units for homes and as matched sets for resorts, restaurants and campuses. We design, make and install every gazebo with our own team, so the frame colour, fabric and finish match across the whole order.
Why Work with ShadeCo India
Since starting in 2010, ShadeCo India has built tensile structures for more than 15 years under an ISO 9001:2015 certified system. Engineers, fabricators and installers are part of our own staff, so a gazebo for a single garden gets the same engineering checks as a large commercial roof.
Clients who have worked with us include Delhi Public School, Food Corporation of India, L&T, TATA, Adani, Al-Karim University, Indian Oil, Omaxe, VIVO, Lakhani, Indian Railways, Reliance and several other organizations across India.
With gazebos, the finish is what people notice, so we take care over straight posts, an even peak, smooth fabric without wrinkles and tidy bases on lawns and terraces. Each gazebo is checked against its approved drawing before handover, and most orders are delivered in 3–6 weeks, depending on size, quantity and customization.
For other outdoor shade ideas, look at our pergolas and outdoor living, inverted umbrellas, pagoda tents and residential shade structures.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions - Gazebo Tensile Structures
A gazebo tensile structure is a freestanding shelter with a peaked, coated-fabric roof on a square, round or hexagonal steel frame. The membrane is tensioned to a central peak so rain runs off on every side, making it a permanent, weatherproof sit-out for gardens, terraces, resorts and cafes.
The price depends on the gazebo size and shape, PVC or PVDF fabric and colour, peak height, number of posts, frame finish, the base (lawn, paving or terrace), lighting, quantity ordered and location. Send ShadeCo India the size or furniture to be covered and a few site photos for a quotation.
Yes. ShadeCo India makes gazebo roofs from PVC or PVDF-coated polyester, which is waterproof, and the peaked shape sheds rain off all four or six sides. Because the sides are open, wind-driven rain can still reach the edge seats, so the roof is sized a little larger than the furniture beneath it.
Yes. On terraces, the posts are fixed to the slab with base plates and the waterproofing is sealed around each fixing. Rooftops face higher wind, so posts, base plates and bolts are sized for that exposure as per IS 875 (Part 3).
Every gazebo is made to order, so the size is set by the seating or tables it needs to cover, from a small garden sit-out to a large dining gazebo. Fabric is available in white, cream and a range of colours, and the steel frame can be powder-coated to match.
The steel frame has an expected structural service life of 25–30 years with proper finishes and routine care. PVDF fabric comes with a warranty of up to 10 years, subject to the manufacturer's terms, while the life of PVC fabric depends on its grade.
Most gazebo orders are delivered in 3–6 weeks, depending on size, quantity and customization. The frame and fabric are made in our workshop, so the work on site is short and causes little disturbance to the garden or restaurant.
Brush off leaves and bird droppings, and rinse the fabric with water and a mild soap every few months. Check the peak fitting, fabric tension and base bolts before the monsoon. Avoid hanging heavy items from the fabric, and ask ShadeCo India about an annual maintenance contract if you have several gazebos.
