A triangle shade sail is a three-cornered piece of shade fabric tensioned between three fixing points, such as posts, walls or columns. It is also known as a triangular shade sail, three-point shade sail, triangle sun sail or triangle shade net. It is used over patios, wall corners, small gardens, play corners, café seating and parking spots.
ShadeCo India Private Limited is a triangle shade sail manufacturer and supplier in India. We design, fabricate, supply and install single triangle sails, right-angle corner sails, overlapping triangle layouts, wall-and-post triangles and freestanding three-post sails. Each sail is made in breathable UV-stabilised HDPE fabric for shade, or PVC-coated polyester for shade with rain cover.
Planning starts with the three fixing points. We check which walls or columns are strong enough to hold a corner and where posts can stand without blocking movement. Then we choose which corner sits higher, so the sail slopes and sheds water.

Why Choose a Triangle Shade Sail
A triangle shade sail needs only three fixing points, so it fits spaces where a square sail or framed roof will not. A corner between two house walls, for example, may need just one new post. Fewer posts mean less digging, less steel and a lower cost.
Triangles also look light and modern. Two or three of them overlapped at different heights cover a larger area with gaps for hot air to escape. The pointed shape suits contemporary homes, cafés and landscaped spaces.
Types of Triangle Shade Sails
The right triangle depends on the shape of the space, the fixing points available and how much area needs shade.
Equal-Sided Triangle Sail
All three sides are similar in length, giving a balanced shape over a round table or a small seating group. It suits open areas where posts can stand at even spacing.
Right-Angle Corner Sail
Two edges run along two walls that meet at a corner, and the third corner goes to a post. It is the simplest way to shade an L-shaped patio or the corner of a compound.
Overlapping Triangle Layout
Two or three triangles are set at different heights with their edges overlapping. Together they cover a wider area, and the layered look adds depth to the space.
Wall-and-Post Triangle
One corner is fixed high on a building wall and two corners go to posts. The high wall corner gives a clear slope away from the house.
Freestanding Three-Post Sail
All three corners sit on posts, so the sail can stand anywhere in a garden or lawn. It needs no wall, which helps where boundary walls are weak.
Triangle Shade Sail Design: Fixing Points, Slope and Tension
Three points always form a flat surface, so a triangle sail gets its slope by raising one corner above the other two. We set the high corner on the side away from where water should fall. For PVC sails, the slope is made steeper so rain does not pool.
Every edge is cut in a curve, called a catenary edge, and reinforced with webbing or an edge cable. This keeps the edges tight, but it also means the shaded area is smaller than the triangle drawn between the fixing points. We allow for this when planning what the sail must cover.
Posts and wall fixings are installed first, and the final sail size is measured between them. Stainless steel turnbuckles at the corners set the tension. We check the tension again after the first few weeks, once the fabric has settled.

Benefits of Triangle Shade Sails
A triangle sail gives quick, good-looking shade with very little steel.
- Fewest Fixing Points: Three corners mean fewer posts and footings to install.
- Fits Awkward Corners: Right-angle sails slot neatly into wall corners.
- Lower Cost: Less steel and simpler fixing keep the budget down.
- Quick to Install: Posts go in, the sail is measured and fitted in a short time.
- Modern Look: Pointed shapes and layered heights suit contemporary spaces.
- Easy to Take Down: Corners unclip for cleaning or storing the sail.
Applications of Triangle Shade Sails
Homeowners use triangle sails over patios, balcony corners, small gardens and single car spots. Cafés and restaurants overlap triangles over outdoor tables for a light, open feel. For other sail shapes and uses, see our full range of custom shade sails.
Schools and housing societies use bright triangles over sandpits and play corners. Offices shade smoking zones and small courtyards. Where a twisted four-corner shape is preferred, see our hypar tensile structures.
Triangle Shade Sail Price in India: What Affects the Cost
The cost of a triangle shade sail depends mainly on its size and the number of posts needed. A sail fixed to two walls and one post costs less than a sail on three new posts.
Fabric choice changes the figure, with HDPE costing less than PVC-coated polyester. Post height, RCC footings, wall pad eyes, stainless hardware, colour and site access also affect the price. Overlapping layouts add sails and posts.

How We Plan and Install a Triangle Shade Sail
A triangle sail is only as good as its three corners, so each step focuses on strong, well-placed fixing points.
- Step 1 – Site visit: We visit the site, mark possible corner points and check walls, columns and the ground for posts.
- Step 2 – Layout: We agree the triangle shape, corner heights, fabric and colour, and which corner will drain.
- Step 3 – Structural check: Posts, wall fixings and footings are checked for corner loads and the site wind load as per IS 875 (Part 3).
- Step 4 – Posts and foundations: Posts are set on RCC footings and wall pad eyes are fixed at approved points.
- Step 5 – Final measurement and fabrication: We measure the sail between the installed points, then cut and finish it with catenary edges.
- Step 6 – Tensioning and handover: The sail is fitted with stainless hardware, tensioned, and the tension is re-checked after the first few weeks.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions - Triangle Shade Sail
A triangle shade sail is a shade fabric with three corners, pulled tight between three strong anchor points. It shades patios, corners and small spaces with very little steel. It comes in breathable HDPE or waterproof PVC-coated polyester.
The cost depends on sail size, fabric, number and height of posts, footings and hardware. Using existing walls for two corners lowers the cost. ShadeCo India quotes from photos, corner distances and location.
UV-stabilised HDPE is best for shade with airflow, and it costs less. PVC-coated polyester is best if you also need rain cover. Both block up to 98% of UV, depending on the fabric.
A PVC sail keeps rain off when one corner is set low enough for water to run off. HDPE lets rain through. Posts, fixings and footings are checked for the site wind load as per IS 875 (Part 3).
Life depends on the fabric, sun exposure, correct tension and care. Stainless hardware and coated posts resist rust. Keeping the sail tight and clean, and removing it before storms if advised, helps it last longer.
Measure the area you want shaded, then allow for curved edges, which make the shade smaller than the triangle between corners. We confirm the size after a site visit and measure the final sail between installed posts.
A triangle sail is typically delivered in 3–6 weeks, based on its size and design. Posts are installed first, then the sail is made to the final measurement and fitted.
A triangle needs three fixing points and fits corners and small spaces. A square sail covers more area per sail but needs four points. Overlapping triangles can cover larger areas with a layered look.
