Rain washes a fabric roof to some extent, but dust, pollution, bird droppings and leaves still build up. Dirt left too long can work its way into the coating and become impossible to remove. In humid areas, it can also lead to mould and permanent stains.
How We Clean Tensile Fabric
The coating on a tensile membrane protects it from UV and weather, so the cleaning method must never harm it. Our team follows the fabric-safe methods that membrane manufacturers recommend.
- Soft Brushes and Sponges: Dirt is lifted gently, without leaving scrub marks on the coating.
- Mild Soap or Fabric-Safe Cleaner: Neutral cleaners, as advised by the fabric maker, are used instead of harsh chemicals.
- Low-Pressure Rinse: Fabric is rinsed with low-pressure water. High-pressure jets are not used, as they can damage coatings and seams.
- No Solvents or Bleach: Strong alkaline, solvent-based or bleach cleaners can harm PVC and PVDF coatings and age the fabric early.
Cleaner is never left to dry on the fabric. Every washed area is rinsed with clean water before the team moves on.
Polycarbonate Sheets, Gutters and Drains
Hard roof sheets need the same gentle care. Polycarbonate sheets are rinsed first to loosen dust, washed with mild soap and a soft cloth, and rinsed again. Abrasive pads, scrapers and strong alkaline cleaners are avoided, because they scratch or cloud the sheet. Metal roofing sheets are washed and checked for rust and loose screws.
Gutters and drain outlets are cleared of leaves, dust and debris, so rainwater can leave the roof freely. A blocked outlet is one of the most common reasons water collects on a fabric roof.
Maintenance Checks on Every Visit
Each visit combines cleaning with a check of the whole structure.
- Fabric Condition: Tears, worn coating, stains and signs of mould.
- Tension: Sagging or wrinkles, with turnbuckles adjusted where needed.

Anything that needs more than an adjustment, such as a torn panel or an open seam, is noted in the report and can be handled by our roof repair team.
